Anaeho’omalu Bay (A-Bay) at Waikoloa Beach Resort

"A" Bay at Waikoloa Beach Resort is one of the best family beaches on the Big Island. The water is calm and tepid. It is a great place to swim beside a Green Sea Turtle or snorkel. In the winter months you can whale watch from the beach. A Bay beach is safe for all age groups and there is never an undertow. The water is best for snorkeling in the morning. The water is shallow and there is virtually no lava rock. Insiders Tip: The beach runs in front of the Marriott hotel which graciously puts out dozens of lounge chairs for anyone to use free of charge. Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area

Hapuna Beach is known for its exquisite powder white sand and romantic setting. Destination Villas travel expert, Tori Milan recommends this beach for strong swimmers only, as it is know for strong undertows and high surf. The surf is too large for booggie boarders, although many do ride the waves. Hapuna beach is perfect for a sunset stroll. Sip a Pina Colada at from Fairmont Orchid hotel. Kahalu'u Beach Park
4 miles south of Kailua-Kona, Kuakini Highway, Kona

Kahalu'u Beach Park is one of the world's premier snorkeling beaches. The lava formations and reef just beyond the beach area attract Green Sea Turtles by the dozens and an array of topical fish. There is free parking and vendors rent and sell snorkels, beach chairs and food. The sand is a mix of whoite and black course sand. Insiders Tip: Arrive early to get a parking spot. In the late afternoon grab happy hour snacks at the nearby hotel and watch the sunset. Kona vacation rentals often are discounted based upon availability.
