Big Island Vacations
Of all the Hawaiian Islands, The Big Island has a distinct energy as new land is born each day as the lava flows into the sea. It is a land of contrasts – lush yellow-greens hills, black lava fields, valleys and summits, desert dry and rainforest wet. It is, without a doubt, a place to fall in love with. Many residents say they have come on vacation and just never went back home.
There are many exciting adventures that await you on the Big Island: Visit a live volcano at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Star Gaze atop Mauna Kea, with it’s Summit Observatory, Shop or Horseback ride along Waimea’s Parker Ranch, Swim with the Wild dolphins at Kealakekua Bay State Historical Park, shop and dine along Kona’s waterfront and drive the lush Hamakua coast that winds along the island’s northern shore to Hilo or the raw beauty of the Kohala Coast, the gold coast with every luxury destination imaginable.
Activities are endless and include surfing lessons, sailing, sport fishing, swimming with Dolphins at Dolphin Quest located at the Hilton Waikoloa Beach Resort. Mauna Kea Summit and Starts Adventures, Horseback riding along side Pele’s Footsteps, championship golf, spas, tennis, The Ironman Triathlon in October, and visiting the many historical and archeological sites on the island.
Of special interest: You may note that the streetlights on the Big Island have an unusual orange glow. That is because they have been converted to a low –spectrum light so that the astronomers atop Mauna Kea will have the best viewing conditions. For those of us else where on the island, you may catch yourself marveling at the sheer number of starts blanketing the nigh sky.
