Things to do in Nevada

Nevada Golf Courses
The Silver State is home to some of the best golf courses in the country. Combine that with more than 300 days of sunshine annually, comfortable year-round play in the Las Vegas area, and sweeping views of the Sierra Nevada from courses in and around Reno and Lake Tahoe, and you’ve got what may well be golf Shangri-La.

With more than 100 courses to choose from, your clubs may need replacing before you run out of options. From casual, low-key courses and resorts in rural towns to the exclusive, PGA-caliber courses of Las Vegas, Henderson, Reno, and Lake Tahoe, Nevada has the right fit for any golfer.

If tasting Nevada’s golf perfection makes you dread returning to the real world, why go back at all? Master-planned golf communities such as Somersett and ArrowCreek in Reno and Summerlin and Lake Las Vegas in the Las Vegas area mean that you can take the leap that so many thousands already have and turn your vacation on the links into life on the links.

Don’t just take our word for it. Throw your clubs in the trunk, hop on a plane, run if you have to, and come experience the excitement for yourself.

Nevada Parks

Nevada's parks range from the magnificent Great Basin National Park on the eastern side of the state to the beautiful Lake Tahoe State Park in the west, and Red Rock Canyon in the south to Wild Horse in the north. In between, expect to find a diverse set of 24 state and several national parks and the countless regional and municipal parks.

Nevada's geology lends to the diversity displayed in the state's parks. Throughout the state, you can find all sorts of adventurous activities in Nevada's parks, or you can relax on the edge of a cool body of water. Choosing where you'll take your next outdoor trip--or just where you plan to visit next time you're in your favorite Nevada town--is as easy as taking a look at what we've put together. So get outside and enjoy Nevada.

Nevada Museums
With so much to explore, where should you begin? Our eight state museums tell the incredible tale of Nevada, from the ancient Native American tribes that once roamed here to the influence of the railway and the Comstock mining boom that changed the face of Nevada forever. Visitors will find restored railcars, ancient relics, preserved fossils and more, all of which offer a fascinating glimpse of the Silver State as it once was. But it doesn’t stop there. Art lovers will appreciate the incredible range of art in both the Las Vegas Art Museum, which focuses on contemporary artists, and the award-winning Nevada Museum of Art in Reno. And in Virginia City, budding artists can put brush to canvas at one of the St. Mary’s Art Center’s many workshops.

For the car buff, Nevada offers a choice of intriguing automotive museums. Don Laughlin’s Classic Car Collection in Laughlin showcases more than 80 rare, antique and historic vehicles, while Reno’s National Automobile Museum, also known as the Harrah Collection, features more than 220 of Bill Harrah’s incredible automobiles, as well as interesting changing exhibits.

Both northern and southern Nevada also offer museums to delight a child’s senses. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City focuses on arts, sciences and humanities with interactive exhibits that combine fun and learning. In Las Vegas, the award-winning Lied Discovery Children’s Museum ranks among the nation’s largest children’s museums and features more than 100 temporary and permanent hands-on exhibits.

Lovers of all things quirky will find their tastes satisfied with visits to the one-of-a-kind Liberace Museum and the world-famous wax museum, Madame Tussauds, both in Las Vegas. Plan your visit today.
